In mid 1970-s, Mondo revolutionized the production technology for athletic tracks. It converted them into an innovational synthetic product that was produced in high-tech factories. Mondo experts invented this technology after diving into research of biomechanics, sports stats and surveying professional athlete's opinions.

Success Story

The Mondo company was founded in 1948 by Edmondo Stroppiana – whose nickname Mondo provided the company name – and by his sons, in Alba, Italy. The company’s first product was a rubber ball, which by 1950 made a thriving company.

The history of artificial turf began in the 1970s, when Sportflex™ - the first rubber-based artificial surface was offered to the market. It was free of heavy metals and suitable for all weather conditions.

Franco Ossola, Luigi Benedetti, Pasqualino Abeti combined over the first three legs to give Mennea a slim lead at the final handover before the latter unleashed a blistering final stint – contemporary newspaper reports listed it as an unofficial 19.6 while other reports have subsequently given it as 19.8 – crossing the line in 1:21.5 to take 0.2 off the previous world record held. It was to be the first of many world records or world bests to be set on Mondo tracks around the world.

Known above all for its sports floorings, particularly athletics tracks and artificial grass fields, Mondo has been designated as official supplier of the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal 1976, and then – in Moscow (1980), Los-Angeles (1984) and Seul (1988).

In late 1980-s, Mondo rubber tracks gained additional momentum as the Tartan™ polyurethane-based synthetic surfaces by 3M™ had been forced out of the market due to the health concerns raised in regard to their high mercury contents.

Mondo has been the Official Supplier of Olympics Tracks for no less than 12 consecutive editions of the, including Rio-2016 and Tokyo-2020.

Mondo was the Official Supplier for 12 IAAF events, including the 2017 London competitions and the 2019 Doha competitions, and 14 IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships, such as the Birmingham-2018 event.

Over 270 World records have been set on Mondo tracks.

Seventy per cent of all IAAF-recognized world records were set on Mondo tracks.

Still headed by Stroppiana family, MONDO is an international group with nine manufacturing plants in Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, and China, and sales subsidiaries in Europe, North America, and Asia.

With three divisions - Mondo Sport&Flooring, Artigo, and Mondo Toys - the Group is a leader in its respective fields of sports flooring and equipment, commercial flooring, balls, and toys

ALL Mondo products are created for the best athletic performance.

The fastest athletes in the world have run on Mondo tracks for over 70 years, setting the most significant records in global athletics.

MONDO involve the athletes from the very first stage by engineering products shaped on their real feedback, and made specifically to reach new level of performance - the new manufacturing standards and innovative materials are created to meet their needs.

By collaborating closely with athletes, coaches and international sports federations, MONDO learns what an athlete needs to move better. With this information, Mondo laboratories create technology and solutions designed for the biomechanics of each sports discipline in special R&D labs.

Committed to sustainable development

Safe for athletes, safe for the environment: Mondo products are sustainable at every stage of their life cycle, from production to disposal.

Athletic track surfaces are produced at the factory in Gallo d’Alba, Italy. The quality of all Mondo products is guaranteed by ISO 9001 certification, specifically - ISO 9001:2015 (the quality management systems standard) and ISO 14001:2015 (requirements for an environmental management system). The manufacturing facilities are equipped by a 4.6 MWatt photovoltaic system that prevents up to 2,000 ton of CO2 emissions.

Mondo really cares about the production sources, so its products have at least a 38% content of environmentally-friendly materials, and about 10% of quickly renewable materials.

There is a standard quality control process on all production facilities. To make sure that Mondo products meet the green guidelines, its products are tested by independent laboratories.

Mondo products are free of heavy metals and meet the strictest VOC requirements, protecting the health of athletes and the nature, while maintaining the best performance.

170203 class (non hazardous waste) in the European Waste Catalogue

Produced from renewable materials.

Athletic track surfaces are produced at the factory in Gallo d’Alba, Italy Mondo factories are powered by 4.6 Mwp photovoltaic syste4ms that reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 2,000 tons per year.

ISO 14001:2015 certified

Mondo production facility is certified to the ISO 9001:2015 and the high-valued ISO 14001:2015 standards Mondo strives to assure high quality and safety of all products and manufacturing processes, and follow the best practices of green management. Safe for athletes, safe for the environment.

Recycled, low-waste materials

Mondo surfaces consist of up to 10% natural rubber. Natural rubber is an ecofriendly, renewable, non-petroleum material with a harvest cycle of under 10 years.

Rapidly renewable materials.

No isocyanates

For better adhesion to the subbase and/ polymerization, track surface systems are made of chemical substances.

These chemicals typically contain isocyanates (to bond with polyalcohols) or amines (for reaction with epoxy resins), which cause irritation to skin and eyes, respiratory system and often are classified as hazardous substances. Toluene diisocyanates are clarified as carcinogens, and cause cancer is humans and animals.

Mondo managed to cut down on amines in its sports surfaces to under 0.5 %( weight), and of isocyanates - to under 0.01 (weight).

It is extremely important not only for the installation workers and for service personnel, but for users, as potential risks are greatly reduced.

Meets the REACH regulation requirements for children’s toys and childcare products.

REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.

As for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; which can be both cancerous and mutagenous, Mondo choose to stick the strictest regulations that are normally imposed for children's’ toys and childcare products (0, 5 mg/kg).

The limit is twice as little as that of regular rubber and plastic goods, and 20 times lower than a similar limit for car tires.

DIN E 18035 Compliant

Meets the requirements of DIN E 18035 standards for heavy metals and soluble organic carbon content of outdoor sportsground synthetic surfaces.

As hazardous substances are not released into the atmosphere, the health of the local community members is not at risk. The German standard DIN 18035-6:2014-12 regulates the safety of sports ground synthetic surfaces..

Air pollution can have a negative effect on athletes’ performance and put their health at risk. This not only applies to indoor venues, but especially to outdoor ones, where sunlight and heat can increase the materials emissions. During training and competition, athletes breathe 20 times more than they would normally. This means that they are 20 times more exposed to pollution risks.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute is an independent body that helps manufacturers create--and helps buyers identify--interior products and materials that have low chemical emissions, improving the quality of the air in which the products are used.

All MONDO athletic tracks that had previously passed the GREENGUARD certifications were certified at the next level and are now labelled as GREENGUARD GOLD. This level implies stricter set of requirement and takes into account the effect that the materials have on vulnerable groups of customers, such as elderly people or children, They also guarantee adherence to the set of regulations that applies to materials used n schools and medical facilities.

VOC regulations in France foresees a mandatory labeling of interior and construction products

Since 2011, construction products, decoration and furnishing products to be traded in France for the first time are to be labelled with an emissions classification based on VOC emissions tests. They apply to floor coverings, paints, varnishes, etc. and label each tested product at a certain level based on test results.

VOC A+ (very low emission) certification for construction products confirms the safety and quality of Mondo products

Meets the CALIFORNIA SECTION 01350 requirements of the California Department of Public Health -environmental and public health considerations for building projects, waste and emissions for construction of enclosed buildings.
